How David Wise Came Back For Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze

How David Wise Came Back For Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

Composer David Wise, who composed music for the original Donkey Kong Country games on the SNES, was replaced by Kenji Yamamoto (Metroid Prime) for Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii. Now, Wise is making a return to create music for the Wii U’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

Siliconera asked Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze producer Kensuke Tanabe how Wise was brought back for the game.

“I worked with David, many, many years ago, and have stayed in contact ever since,” Tanabe shared with me. “He's actually a friend of mine. So, as we approached this particular project, he became available.”

“So I picked up the phone and said 'Hey David! You have some time? Would you like to help us out with Tropical Freeze?' And he jumped at the chance. It was a coincidence that he was available at the time' he wasn't prior [for Donkey Kong Country Returns] and we couldn't be happier.

Tanabe also says that the music in Tropical Freeze will all be original. “Yet, there will be some familiarities' you can hear that it is David Wise,” he added.

Summer Sale Bundles Continue with Five Titles from NinjaBee

If your wallet isn't emptied and riddled with cobwebs after the recent Steam sale, the Xbox Live Arcade has got another summer sale for you. The bundle includes five games from NinjaBee (A World of Keflings, Band of Bugs, Ancients of Ooga, Cloning Clyde and Outpost Kaloki X) for 1600 MS Points, or $20.

“In any other circumstance, five NinjaBees would be too dangerous for most humans to approach alone,” said Brent Fox, art director at NinjaBee. “But we are pleased to announce that the NinjaBee Bundle is safe not only for you, but for your wallet as well.”

Here at GAMINGtruth, we enjoyed the original launch of A Workd of Keflings. The expansive casual/RTS/adventure gameplay is enough to warrant the price tag.

And you know what they say, the Oogani aren't going to release themselves. Now take those recyclables in for the extra change, chump.

Devil Survivor 2 Needs 1,800 Pre-Orders To Be Released In Europe

Devil Survivor 2 will be released in Europe if publisher Ghostlight see enough pre-orders for the game. Pre-orders were supposed to go live this week, but didn’t due to a pending final approval of the package that Ghostlight hope to release.

While you wait for that to happen, Ghostlight have provided details on what their plans for the game are. They hope to release Devil Survivor 2 in the following packages:

Option 1: Standalone Release

Devil Survivor 2 (DS)This factory sealed edition will be available to all PAL territories and anyone pre-ordering from us will have the option to include their name in the DS2 manual.Pre-Order price £24.99/€29.99

Option 2: Devil Survivor Bundle

Devil Survivor 2 (DS) & Devil Survivor Overclocked (3DS) with £10.00 discount! Both games will be factory sealed and as with Option 1, anyone pre-ordering the bundle will have the option to include their name in the DS2 manual. Regrettably, we will not be able to ship this bundle to Germany due to an existing distribution agreement.Pre-Order price £49.98/€59.98 (usual price £59.98/€69.98)

Here’s the important part, though: In order to break even on Devil Survivor 2’s manufacturing costs, Ghostlight will need to reach a total 1,800 paid pre-orders between the two above packages, and these pre-orders will only remain open for one month. If they don’t reach their quota, everyone that pre-ordered Option 1 will receive a refund. If you pre-ordered Option 2, you’ll receive a £24.99 refund—and get Devil Survivor: Overclocked at a £10.00 discount.

Ghostlight aim to have Devil Survivor 2 out in Europe by the end of September.

Maybe Gaist Crusher Is Meant To Lead Kids Into Capcom Games hellip;

Maybe Gaist Crusher Is Meant To Lead Kids Into Capcom Games… When I first leapt into Gaist Crusher, my character Rekka Shirokane carried a giant sword into battle with him. Each swing of this blade would take a chunk of his four-part stamina gauge. His attacks increased in damage and startup time from Y to X to A, with the last one acting as a launcher that would throw him into the air as well.

'

Pressing A again would bring him crashing to the ground with a helm-breaker. In a weird way, the slow startup on most of these attacks reminded me of using the long sword in Monster Hunter, but Gaist Crusher's robotic enemies were much more straightforward than most of what you'd find in Monster Hunter. Maybe Gaist Crusher is meant to lead kids into Capcom games…

'

Given that the game has an aerial combat aspect, I was a bit surprised that the B button was a dashing attack rather than a jump. Multiple dashes could be chained together, which basically made the attack my de facto method of evasion. However, this drained my stamina gauge, too.

'

Maybe Gaist Crusher Is Meant To Lead Kids Into Capcom Games…

'

That's where form switching comes in. Tapping R turned the Gaimetal sword Rekka was using into a suit of armor. Every attack was a punch or kick, and they wouldn't drain my stamina like the sword form would. The attacks were faster and weaker, but still useful. For instance, I still had access to a launcher on A. Sadly, my beloved dash was gone, replaced by a defensive burst. It didn't feel particularly powerful, and while I did block a couple attacks with it, its utility seemed kind of limited.

'

Fortunately, swapping between these two forms was immediate, so I could beat up on an enemy with a flurry of punches, shoryuken them into the air, swap to sword form, use my aerial dash to stab the enemy back down to the ground with very little effort or pause.

'

When I finally made it to the boss (who looked like a fire-breathing robotic parasaurolophus), I found that my armor form attacks did very little to him. I used the sword form for a whole, but I used most of my stamina dodging. I then noticed an EX icon on the touchscreen, tapped it, and turned into a gigantic flaming robotic wolf.

'

Maybe Gaist Crusher Is Meant To Lead Kids Into Capcom Games…

'

Once again, my moveset completely changed, and the attacks fell on the slow side of things… which didn't work so well against my more nimble foe, who kept hitting me out of my attacks' startup. After a little bit of biting and clawing randomly, my wolf was destroyed and I returned to human form. That said, I had done enough damage to finish him off with a few slashes.

'

After the boss fell, he turned into a rock that contained a new Gaimetal. I had 45 seconds to shatter all the rock off of it, and I was (presumably) rewarded with a new armor set for it, but I couldn't try it out because my demo was over.

People Are Still Buying Older Pokémon RPGs

People Are Still Buying Older Pokémon RPGs

Last year, Nintendo released Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 for the Nintendo DS.  While the two games have already sold over 7 million copies to date, plenty of people are also still getting caught up with older Pokémon titles. In fact, over the course of the last one year, about 1 million people were content buying older Pokémon RPGs.

Take a look at the table below, containing sales data for Pokémon that we’ve compiled from Nintendo’s various financial reports over the last year, with an explanation below it.

ReleasedTitleMarch 2012March 2013Increase2007Pokémon Diamond/Pearl17.61 million17.63 million+20,0002010Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver12.40 million12.67 million+270,0002011Pokémon Black/White14.71 million15.42 million+710,000

The “March 2012” column shows worldwide sales figures for each Pokémon RPG as of March 31st, 2012. The “March 2013” column shows sales figures exactly one year later. By calculating the difference between these figures, the “Increase” column tells us how much each game sold from March 2012 to March 2013.

As you can see, Pokémon Black and Pokémon White, despite being released two years ago, still managed to sell over 700,000 copies. Meanwhile, HeartGold and SoulSilver, which were released in 2010, sold an additional 270,000 copies last year. Furthermore, 20,000 people even picked up Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl, which were released six years ago. That totals up to 1 million players.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering, sales of Pokémon Black 2 and Pokémon White 2 are at 7.81 million as of March 2013.

Nintendo’s next Pokémon RPGs, Pokémon X and Pokémon Y, will be released this October. The two new titles will be the first mainline Pokémon games on the Nintendo 3DS, effectively hitting the “reset” button and marking a generational transition, where a large number of players will be required to upgrade from a DS to a 3DS in order to play the new games. It should be very interesting to see how they sell.
